We are improving our entire system, from birth to high school graduation.

The City now enrolls nearly 70,000 four-year-olds annually in Pre-K for All, and is expanding access to 3-K programs. We placed reading coaches in every New York City elementary school and continue to expand access to bilingual and dual-language programs, career and technical education, and postsecondary opportunities. In 2018 we saw the highest-ever number of students taking and passing AP exams. High school graduation rates are rising, and more graduates are ready for college than ever before.

Our goal is a diverse and fair school system.

We will increase our investments in early childhood education by expanding 3-K for All and focusing on early literacy. We will upgrade our school buildings and ensure all students have access to quality courses and college-prep programs. We will increase the diversity and inclusiveness of our classrooms. All children in New York City will receive an equitable and excellent education, regardless of their race or where they live.

Our schools can serve as a model for the nation.

A quality education is an essential step to building a fulfilling life. Every child, no matter who their parents are or what zip code they live in, deserves an excellent education. By creating excellent and equitable schools, we will empower the next generation of New Yorkers to pursue their dreams, support their families, and be active members of society.

Our commitment to Equity and Excellence in Education
  • Make New York City a leading national model for early childhood education
  • Advance equity in K-12 opportunity and achievement
  • Increase integration, diversity, and inclusion in New York City schools
